Developing Reading Comprehension in 7-8 Grades through Socratic Seminar Method

Abstract

This study is experimental research that indicates the benefit of the Socratic seminar method to improve students’ understanding of the written texts. The method was used at the 36th secondary school Namangan, grade 7. At schools reading comprehension is considered difficult process as a result, it was hold in English language lessons. By reading this paper, readers find how to establish the method and introduce pupils’ results in a table and chart. It particularly focused on helping students’ achievement in reading comprehension. During 3 weeks it was felt gradually improvement in pupils’ reading comprehension and in every seminar they are allowed to assess their partners on the worksheet. At the end of the paper, observers opinion are shown about Socratic seminar (Appendices). Socratic seminar method is advised for other subject teachers also because by the method pupils are able to find ground meaning of the texts and learn to express their ideas independently.
