Abstract

1970’s era stands as a witness to the emergence of feminist theatre in India. The representation of women in plays led to an introspection which in later years proved path breaking wherein women and their roles in live theatre found a solid ground. Gender as a broad concept reminds us that the process of women's awareness and empowerment is an ongoing struggle for women. And to say the least, theatre by women has been instrumental in paving the way, both as a medium and beacon of change for the larger and greater interest of an equal and just society.
