Abstract

The article highlights the views of Academician S. Shermukhamedov on the essence, functions, social significance, patterns of origin and development of language, the main attention is paid to the study of the scientist’s reasoning about the role of the Russian language as an important means of interethnic communication between peoples and nations, rapprochement and interaction of national cultures.
