Abstract

There are almost no works written in the genre of drama in Arabic literature in the ancient and medieval periods of the history of Arabic literature. Elements of drama and characteristic features of dramatic character could be found only in dialogues of “maqomas”. The processes of emergence of the Arab theater and attempts to organize it go back to the middle of the 19th century. This article examines the reasons for the decline of the drama genre in Arabic literature and its first examples.
