Metacognitive Strategy Training and Reading Comprehension Performance among Iraqi Students

Notwithstanding the importance and the ability to utilize metacognitive approaches in teaching and learning measurement of English language has for long been neglected. The essence of reading comprehension to students’ academic role increases the lack of metaconceptual reading approaches. This development in reading strategy is one of the ways to solve the problem of poor reading abilities. This study is on female students in Iraq. The study aims to point out the strategy of reading strategies that often impact on the students reading comprehension. The study employed quantitative approach and it specifically obtained the data through the quasi-experimental method to address the objectives. A questionnaire tool was used where 50 items were developed and achieved the aim of the study. Iraq university was selected to to serve as the area of study. The sampling technique was purposive sampling where the researcher chose this sampling technique in order to obtain the required data of the study. This technique important because not all the students have the required idea to approach the task. Spss 25 was the tool used to analysed the data and the findings revealed that metaconceptual knowledge is one of the important factors to enhance reading comprehension in university students. The study further concluded that teachers of reading comprehension should expose students to various techniques that will assist students to make significant progress in the 21st century and this can be achieved through the use of modern technology.
