Abstract

Vocational guidance plays a pivotal role in shaping the future of children with special educational needs (SEN), helping them navigate the complexities of career development and transition to the workforce. This article explores key aspects of vocational guidance for children with SEN, focusing on the theoretical frameworks, early intervention, the roles of educators and professionals, and the specific challenges faced by these children. Drawing on psychological and educational theories, including Holland’s Theory of Vocational Choice and Super’s Life-Span, Life-Space Theory, the article emphasizes the importance of personalized, flexible vocational guidance that caters to individual abilities and needs. Early intervention is identified as a crucial factor in fostering self-awareness and developing essential vocational skills. The collaborative efforts of teachers, counselors, psychologists, and other professionals are highlighted as fundamental to providing comprehensive guidance. Additionally, the article examines the particular challenges children with intellectual disabilities, autism spectrum disorders, physical disabilities, and emotional/behavioral issues encounter in vocational guidance. It concludes by discussing the importance of vocational training programs, including transition programs and community-based initiatives, in providing children with real-world experience and career readiness. Ultimately, the article advocates for inclusive, adaptable vocational guidance strategies to enhance the opportunities for children with SEN to lead independent, fulfilling lives and integrate successfully into the workforce.
