Cyber Security and Schools in Nigeria: Benefits and Problems

Abstract

Cyber security has become an increasingly important topic in today's digital age. With the rise of technology, schools in Nigeria are facing both benefits and problems when it comes to cyber security. In this paper, we discussed identified and analyzed the benefits of cyber security in Nigerian schools and also looked at the problems facing cyber security in schools. This study looked at the concept of cyber security and examined the reasons why schools are attractive for attacks. The paper is a review paper that depend secondary data. The secondary data were collected from print and online publications. The paper identified technology integration in learning, value of data and limited resources for cybersecurity as reasons for schools attacks and protection of sensitive schools data, student safety, maintaining school integrity and building trust and reputation in the schools as benefits of cyber security in schools. The paper based on the findings recommends that federal and state government should invest in cyber security in schools by providing necessary infrastructure facilities, trainings and technical support. Private institutions and international organizations should support the development of cyber security in Nigerian schools by providing capacity for both teachers and school administrators.
