Abstract

Impersonal sentences are an essential part of English grammar and are widely used in academic, journalistic, and legal writing to express information objectively. These sentences do not have a specific subject or agent and often rely on structures such as it is and there is/are. This study explores impersonal sentences from three perspectives: syntactic (how they are formed), cognitive (how people understand them), and functional (how they are used in different types of writing). By analyzing a corpus of 500 impersonal sentences from various texts, this research highlights their role in structuring information, making general statements, and maintaining objectivity. The results show that impersonal sentences are fundamental to clear, professional, and neutral communication.
