Translation Problems of Ecological Terms from English into Uzbek

Abstract

This study explores the translation challenges of ecological terms between English and Uzbek, focusing on issues such as lexical gaps, semantic mismatches, and context-dependent ambiguities. As ecological discourse becomes increasingly interdisciplinary and global, accurate term translation is critical for effective scientific communication and policy development. Using a corpus of 150 frequently used ecological terms and expert interviews with bilingual ecologists and translators; this research identifies five key categories of translation problems: lexical gaps, false cognates, semantic ambiguity, context misuse, and grammatical complexity. The findings highlight the need for standardized bilingual glossaries and closer collaboration between linguists and subject-matter experts. Addressing these translation issues is essential for fostering international cooperation and ensuring the clear dissemination of ecological knowledge across languages.
