This article explores the core principles of Conceptual Metaphor Theory and its significance in linguistic research. Developed by G. Lakoff and M. Johnson, the theory views metaphor as a fundamental cognitive mechanism shaping human thought, perception, and behavior. The paper examines structural, orientational, and ontological metaphors and their manifestation in vocabulary, semantic domains, scientific concepts, and functional styles. Special attention is given to substantive conceptual metaphors and their role in the development of scientific terminology. The study demonstrates that conceptual metaphor functions not only as a linguistic device but also as a vital theoretical and methodological tool in scientific cognition
