Abstract

This study examines the impact of overcrowded classroom on students academic performance at Government Bilingual High School Yaounde (GHBS). The raising enrollment in urban public schools, overcrowded classrooms, has raised concerns about teachers effectiveness, students engagement, insufficient infrastructures and absenteeism. the main objective of this study was to find out how these factors influence academic performance of students .The research method used in this study was the descriptive survey design, both qualitative and quantitative data were collected from 322 randomly selected students ( form three to upper sixth using questionnaire and interviews. Findings revealed that overcrowding reduce teacher effectiveness, limit students academic performance. the study suggest recruiting more teachers, expanding infrastructures, enhancing learning resources, and adopting flexible teaching strategies. it also call for policy reforms and community engagement to create a conducive learning environment that support academic success.
