Smart Contracts as a Special Subtype of Blockchain-Based Contracts

Abstract
The article examines the peculiarities of legal regulation of smart contracts as a special type of digital contracts based on blockchain technology. It analyzes the evolution of contractual structures in the context of digitalization, characterizes smart contracts, their advantages, and key problems of integration into the existing legal system. The author offers his own definition of a smart contract and concludes that civil law mechanisms need to be adapted to the new digital realities.
