Local Treatment Methods for Diseases of the Oral Mucosa
Main Article Content
Abstract
Diagnosis, treatment and prevention of diseases of the oral mucosa, tongue and lips remain an important problem of clinical medicine. In many systemic diseases, changes in the oral mucosa, tongue and lips occur long before the appearance of general clinical symptoms. Therefore, the correct interpretation of such changes and the selection of appropriate medications are of great importance not only for dentists, but also for other specialists. Rational treatment requires communication between the dentist and other dental and non-dental specialists.
Treatment should be carried out in accordance with the principles of bioethics, and these diseases should be considered from the point of view of the state of the whole organism, so in many cases it is impossible to be limited to local effects alone.
The axiom for the dentist should be the elimination of all unfavorable irritants that contribute to and provoke the development of the pathological process in the patient's oral cavity. The use of cauterizing agents and the use of the same mouthwash for a long time is unacceptable.
Treatment should begin only after establishing at least a preliminary diagnosis and meet the following requirements: be comprehensive; provide a pathogenetic approach; do not violate the anatomical and physiological characteristics of the oral mucosa; eliminate the pain factor; promote rapid epithelialization of lesions; ensure the patient's active participation in conducting medical procedures at home.
