Abstract

Schizophrenia is a severe mental disorder that affects approximately 24 million people, or 1 in 300 people worldwide. Schizophrenia causes psychosis, is associated with severe disability, and can negatively affect all areas of life, including personal, family, social, academic and work life. Persons with schizophrenia are often subject to stigma, discrimination and human rights violations. Worldwide, more than two-thirds of people with psychosis do not receive specialized mental health care.
