Abstract

The lexical stock of the German language has evolved historically and is closely intertwined with the vocabulary through word-formation processes. This paper explores the dynamics of lexical enrichment in the German language, focusing on word formation, borrowing from other languages, and semantic shifts. The historical development of the German vocabulary reflects both internal linguistic changes and external influences, such as cultural and political contact. Additionally, this study discusses the influence of core words on lexico-semantic structures and highlights the significance of foreign borrowings. Through analysis of historical and contemporary sources, this article provides insight into the complex mechanisms of lexical expansion in the German language.
