The Translation of Phraseological Units With Cultural Components In English and Uzbek

Abstract

The translation of phraseological units with cultural components between English and Uzbek involves intricate challenges due to the unique cultural, historical, and linguistic features embedded in these expressions. These phraseological units, which include idioms, proverbs, and fixed expressions, are deeply intertwined with the values, traditions, and worldviews of the societies that use them. The aim of this paper is to explore how such culturally rich expressions are translated between English and Uzbek, the strategies used by translators, and the issues they encounter in preserving the original meaning, tone, and cultural context. By analyzing the approaches of literal translation, adaptation, and paraphrasing, the paper examines the ways in which translators bridge cultural gaps in phraseological units.
